If today we have many types of tow trucks on the motor-vehicle market, in the past the situation was quite different. Here is how it all began:
1916. This was the year when Ernest Holmes invented the tow truck in Chattanooga, Tennessee. His first model was a pulley and chain hooked to a 1913 Cadillac.
1919. Holmes patents his roadside assistance truck and starts manufacturing vehicles to sell. His initial sales were not very good because of the high price (nearly $700) but once they dropped to $490, a great improvement was seen.
